Succinic acid is a colorless crystal; the relative density is 1.572, the melting point is 188 °C, and it decomposes at 235 °C; it can be sublimated by distillation under reduced pressure; it is soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol, ether and acetone.

Application

1. In the food industry, it is used as a flavoring agent, a sour agent, a buffering agent, for ham, sausage, aquatic products, seasoning liquid, etc.
2. Succinic acid can be used as preservative, pH adjuster, cosolvent;
3. Succinic acid is a good surfactant and is a component of detergents, soaps and demulsifiers;
4. Also used in the preparation of alkyd resins, paints and dyes.
5. In the pharmaceutical industry, it can be used to produce sulfonamides, vitamin A, vitamin B and other antispasmodic agents, phlegm loosening agents, diuretics and hemostatic drugs.
6. Used as raw material for organic synthesis.
