Colorless or yellow deliquescent crystals or liquids. Soluble in ethanol, ether and water. It has active chemical properties and can conduct addition or condensation reaction with ammonia, amide, aldehyde and carboxyl-containing compounds. Mainly used in textile industry. It is prepared by gas phase catalytic oxidation of ethylene glycol and air.

Application

Glyoxal is mainly used in the textile industry. As a fiber treatment agent, it can increase the spinning shrinkage and wrinkle resistance of cotton, nylon and other fibers, and is a durable press finishing agent. Glyoxal is also used in leather industry and making waterproof matches. Glyoxal is the raw material of organic synthesis. It is also used as insect repellent, deodorant, corpse preservative, sand curing agent.
